The Sacred Heart Faith in Action Team is a steering group which seeks to identify ways for parishioners to help the needy in the world, in the spirit of Matthew 25: “Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine you did for me.” Broadly speaking, we seek to be active in areas of local and global poverty and pro-life ministries.
Current Charitable Ministries at Sacred Heart: Sacred Heart parishioners are involved in a wide variety of Charitable Ministries. For a listing of our current ministries, click here.
Food packaging project: On Palm Sunday, Sacred Heart joined with St. Paul’s Methodist Church to package nearly 20,000 meals to be distributed to the poor in the Dominican Republic. Working with the international group, Children of the Nations, fifty parishioners spent two hours packaging meals of rice and lentils. We plan to join together with all the churches of Coronado for an event on November 2, packaging 100,000 meals! To volunteer, call Mary Griffin at 437-7131.
Tutoring at Our Lady’s School:
We have begun a program of tutoring school children at Our Lady’s School, which is part of the parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe, just across the bridge in Barrio Logan. Tutors commit to tutoring one or two hours each week to help children who need assistance with basic homework. For more information, contact Deacon Kevin Murray at (619) 437-43420 or email@example.com, or John Bowen at (619) 435-4875.
Some of our parishioners need an occasional ride to the doctors’ office or for a medical procedure, or may need a ride to mass. If you are interested in helping with this ministry, call Lynn Kershner at 435-8367.
Financial support of social ministries:
Last fiscal year, Sacred Heart donated over $20,000 to charities in our community and around the world. For a list of our major donations, click here.
Our Faith in Action Team is always open to new members. If you would like to help in any way, please call Deacon Kevin Murray at 619-437-4320 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
