The 25th Annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive will be held May 12. Each year on the second Saturday in May, letter carriers across America, collect the goodness and compassion of their postal customers, who participate in the largest one day food drive in the nation.

The food that is collected by the Coronado Post Office goes directly to San Diego Military Outreach Ministries. This local program is an outgrowth of Military Parish Visitors that was founded during WWII; it is affectionately known as MOM. MOM is a faith-based, non-profit organization serving all branches of the U.S. military.  Its mission is to help meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of San Diego junior enlisted (E5 and below) young families struggling to live in our high economy. Primary help comes in the way of baby supplies (including diapers), food, bread and basic household goods.

Members of our Coronado community are invited to come to the Post Office at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, to help sort and box the food that is collected. If you know (or can be taught) the difference between a can and a box, you meet the qualification to help with the task.

On Saturday, May 12, help our junior enlisted service members by donating a box or bag of non-perishable food. Place it next to your mailbox before your letter carrier delivers your mail and the carrier will get the bag to our sorting and boxing volunteers.
