Come and see is the simplest method to get to know a situation. It is the most honest test of every message, because in order to know, I need to encounter, to permit the one I have before me to speak, to allow his witness to reach me.

Encounter that becomes culture
216. The word “culture” points to something deeply embedded within a people, its most cherished convictions and its way of life. A people’s “culture” is more than an abstract idea. It has to do with their desires, their interests and ultimately the way they live their lives. To speak of a “culture of encounter” means that we, as a people, should be passionate about meeting others, seeking points of contact, building bridges, planning a project that includes everyone. This becomes an aspiration and a style of life. The subject of this culture is the people.

Psalm 25
Teach me your ways, O Lord.
Your ways, O LORD, make known to me;
teach me your paths,
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my savior.
Remember that your compassion, O LORD,
and your love are from of old.
In your kindness remember me,
because of your goodness, O LORD.
Good and upright is the LORD;
thus he shows sinners the way.
He guides the humble to justice
and teaches the humble his way.
Teach me your ways, O Lord.

THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SUNDAY OF THE WORD OF GOD
Celebrate, study, share
The timing seemed right. In September 2019, on the 1,600th anniversary of scripture scholar Saint Jerome’s death, Pope Francis launched a new observance on the church calendar. Today’s “Sunday of the Word of God” is deliberately placed within the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. All who follow Jesus are invited to unite around the happy gift of our sacred story contained in the Bible’s pages. On this occasion, we celebrate, study, and spread these good words we never possess merely for ourselves. Enthrone the Bible in your home—and heart.
TODAY'S READINGS: Jonah 3:1-5, 10 1 Corinthians 7:29-31 Mark 1:14-20
“The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe in the gospel.”

WORD OF GOD SUNDAY
In 2019 on the Feast of St. Jerome, Pope Francis released the Apostolic Letter "Aperuit illis" that dedicated the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time as "Word of God" Sunday, a day to "be devoted to the celebration, study and dissemination of the Word of God." That is today! Together we pray:⠀
"God of eternal love and light, You have given us Jesus as Your incarnate Word. Hear our humble prayers and grant us the grace and courage to live and proclaim Your Gospel. Through Christ our Lord. Amen."

He continues: "The Spirit continues to guide us in our translating the Good News into different contexts, so that the words of Jesus continue to resound in the hearts of men and women in every age. That is why I like to quote Gustav Mahler, that 'tradition is not the repository of ashes, but the preservation of fire.'"

“Holy Mary, we entrust our lives to you. Teach us to live in peace. Inspire us to act justly, to revere all God has made, to include all God’s children in the way of Love. Root peace firmly in our hearts and in the world. Amen."

215. “Life, for all its confrontations, is the art of encounter”.[204] I have frequently called for the growth of a culture of encounter capable of transcending our differences and divisions. This means working to create a many-faceted polyhedron whose different sides form a variegated unity, in which “the whole is greater than the part”.[205] The image of a polyhedron can represent a society where differences coexist, complementing, enriching and reciprocally illuminating one another, even amid disagreements and reservations. Each of us can learn something from others. No one is useless and no one is expendable. This also means finding ways to include those on the peripheries of life. For they have another way of looking at things; they see aspects of reality that are invisible to the centres of power where weighty decisions are made.
