This Sunday’s readings provide an opportunity to focus on our trust in God with great courage and hope. In the Gospel, the disciples panic as the gale takes hold, awakening Jesus, who chides them for their lack of faith. They are filled with awe as Jesus stills the waves, asking: ‘Who can this be?’
This week we might pray for an increasing awareness of the Lord’s constant presence in our lives. We can express our gratitude for his love in the words of the psalm refrain: O give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures for ever.

Gospel of the Day - St Matthew 6:19-23
Jesus said to His disciples: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal. But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.
“The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light; but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness. And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.”

“Let us commit to Christianity as a way of life, to being truly ‘catholic’, open to all whom †Jesus served by His sacrifice. Which includes everyone.”
-Fr. Mike Murphy
Let us pray that participation in the Eucharist may always be an incentive: to follow the Lord every day, to be instruments of communion and to share what we are with him and with our neighbor. Our life will then be truly fruitful.
-Pope Francis

Here’s a fun Throw Back Thursday: @shpscoronado in the 4th of July Parade circa 1950.
Happy Summer solstice/1st day of summer!
(Did you know this is the earliest summer solstice in more than two centuries, since June 20, 1796, when George Washington was president.)

I See His Blood Upon The Rose
I see his blood upon the rose
And in the stars the glory of his eyes,
His body gleams amid eternal snows,
His tears fall from the skies.
I see his face in every flower;
The thunder and the singing of the birds
Are but his voice-and carven by his power
Rocks are his written words.
All pathways by his feet are worn,
His strong heart stirs the ever-beating sea,
His crown of thorns is twined with every thorn,
His cross is every tree.

Gospel of the Day - St Matthew 6:7-15
Jesus said to His disciples, “In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them.
Your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
“This is how you are to pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name,
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and do not subject us to the final test, but deliver us from the evil one.
“If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions.”

Gospel Matthew 6:1-6
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Take care not to perform righteous deeds
in order that people may see them;
otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father.
When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you,
as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets
to win the praise of others.
Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you give alms,
do not let your left hand know what your right is doing,
so that your almsgiving may be secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
“When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites,
who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners
so that others may see them.
Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door,
and pray to your Father in secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
