Yippee!! Awesome waiters, chefs, guests and more!

What a wonderful spaghetti dinner tonight. So nice to see many old friends and acquaintances. Thanks to Chef Jimmy D and the kitchen crew along with the Knights and other volunteers, including the Boy Scouts. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Coming live to a parish near you!

Some of us were taught that Mass attendance "counted" if we arrived for the gospel and stayed through Communion. Most churchgoers, thankfully, are weaned from this spartan idea to the liturgical celebration. In 2019, Pope Francis designated the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time as "Word of God Sunday." While every Mass includes a healthy serving of Bible readings, annually we're invited to reflect that this is "an experience which occurs ‘live’ and not through hearsay," as the pope says. “We gather precisely to listen to what God has done and still intends to do for us." Let's not miss a word of it!

THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME / SUNDAY OF THE WORD OF GOD
TODAY'S READINGS: Isaiah 8:23—9:3; 1 Corinthians 1:10-13, 17; Matthew 4:12-23 (67). “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom a light has shone.”

Epiphany is a feast of hope, nourished by what God has done and is doing in our midst.
This and all the feasts we celebrate here in community, are not mere “look-backs” to past events. Rather, today, we are reminded it is our mission to be, as Paul puts it, “stewards” of God’s grace.
How, in our daily lives then, can we be epiphanies of God’s broad and inclusive love for all people?
Every choice we make in line with God's desire for the world is like a mini incarnation, a little Christmas where God enters the world and touches it. That decision, if it contributes in some way to God's master project, makes God incarnate in a new way through us. Our flesh—and brain power and muscle movement, etc.—becomes a conduit for God's action in the world.
As Teresa of Avila said, "Christ has no body but yours, no hands, no feet on earth but yours."

Let us then with confidence draw near to the thron Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. John 1:16

But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.1 Corinthians 15:10

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people.
Titus 2:11

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Epiphany House Blessing: Using chalk, write on th Epiphany House Blessing:
Using chalk, write on the outside of your house or inside the front main entrance, above or next to any entrance:

20 + C + M + B + 23

The first and last numbers refer to the current year. “C M B” is an abbreviation for “ Christus Mansionem Benedicat” which means, “May Christ bless this dwelling!” It also comes from the traditional names for the three kings: Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar.
Then you may offer your own prayer or use the below.
Through this blessing, we are welcoming the Christ Child into our hearts and our homes and ask his blessings for the new year. May you have a blessed Epiphany, and may the Lord be close always, and your home a place of Christ’s peace for all.
Happy Epiphany!
Epiphany is traditionally January 6 but as a feast day will be celebrated January 8th.

Blessing prayer:
Lord God of heaven and earth, you revealed your only begotten Son to every nation by the guidance of a star. Bless this house and all who live here and all Who visit. May we be blessed with health, Kindness of heart, gentleness and the keeping of your law.
Fill us with the light of Christ, that our love for each other may go out to all. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Spirituality is a friendly endeavor

Is there anyone you regard as a “spiritual friend”? Someone with whom you share your Christian journey and who helps you grow in faith? Basil the Great and Gregory Nazianzen were two such friends who were monks together for a while and later both became bishops. They lived in a time—the fourth century—when there was great conflict and heresy, and the pair worked to keep the church united on the right path. Gregory wrote of their friendship: “We seemed to be two bodies with a single spirit … Our single object and ambition was virtue, and a life of hope in the blessings that are to come …” If it’s true that you are the company you keep, choose wisely!

TODAY'S READINGS: 1 John 2:22-28; John 1:19-28. “Who are you, so we can give an answer to those who sent us?”
