Pentecost Novena Day 2
Come, Holy Spirit.
Fill the hearts of your faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit, and they shall
And you shall renew the face of the earth. O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit instructed the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Spirit we may know what is right and always rejoice in his consolation, through Christ our Lord.
Father, at the time of your Son’s ascension into heaven you promised to send the Holy Spirit
on your apostles. You filled them with heavenly wisdom: fill us also with the gift of your Spirit. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.
There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
1 Corinthians 12:1,4-11
Breathe in me, O Holy Spirt,
that my thoughts may all be holy.
Act in me, O Holy Spirit,
that my work, too, may be holy.
Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, that I love only what is holy.
Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy.
Guard me, O Holy Spirit,
that I always may be holy.
St. Augustine of Hippo
From Servant of God Isaac Hecker
“...a constant readiness to perceive the Divine guidance in the secret ways of the soul, and then to act with decision and a noble and generous courage – this is true wisdom.”
Spend some time asking for the gift of Wisdom. (Quiet time follows.)
Lord, Jesus, you are the Word of God, eternal with the Father and the Spirit. You sent the Spirit to us that we might partake of your Word, living in you, sharing in your eternal wisdom, the wisdom which helps us see everything in you. Increase your wisdom in our minds and lives. We pray this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

A sonnet for the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord
We saw his light break through the cloud of glory
Whilst we were rooted still in time and place
As earth became a part of Heaven's story
And heaven opened to his human face.
We saw him go and yet we were not parted
He took us with him to the heart of things
The heart that broke for all the broken-hearted
Is whole and Heaven-centred now, and sings,
Sings in the strength that rises out of weakness,
Sings through the clouds that veil him from our sight,
Whilst we our selves become his clouds of witness
And sing the waning darkness into light,
His light in us, and ours in him concealed,
Which all creation waits to see revealed.

Spiritual Communion Prayer for the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord
As you ascended into heaven, you promised us
You would be with us always, until the end of time.
Enlighten the eyes of my heart,
That I may know ever more deeply
the hope that belongs to all who follow you.
I want to receive You into my soul.
I long to come to you at the table of the Eucharist.
where I believe you are truly present in the most holy sacrament.
But since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come spiritually into my heart, where
I embrace You and I unite myself wholly to You.
Never let me to be separated from You.
Keep me close in your Sacred Heart.
Amen ... See MoreSee Less

Today, we begin the Original Novena - the Pentecost Novena. For the next nine days, join us in praying for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Pentecost Novena Day 1:
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of your love.
V. Send forth Your Spirit, and they shall be created.
R. And you shall renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray.
O God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of Your faithful, grant that by that same Holy Spirit, we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
"I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put my spirit within you so that you walk in my statutes, observe my ordinances, and keep them. You will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God." - Ezekiel 36: 26-28
"I will put my spirit in you that you may come to life, and I will settle you in your land. Then you shall know that I am the LORD. I have spoken; I will do it." -Ezekiel 37:14
Holy Spirit, what do you want of me today? Give me eyes that can see, ears that can hear and a heart that can love.

FEAST OF MATTHIAS, APOSTLE
Abstinence makes the faith grow stronger
Although self-denial is celebrated in all major religions as a virtue, the value isn’t so much in the practice as in the motivation. For Christians the virtuous motivation for abstinence of food, drink, or particular desires comes from love. We deny ourselves for God’s sake and for the sake of others. Saint Matthias, patron of alcoholics, encouraged abstinence as a way to grow closer to God. He kept his focus on his vocation to spread the gospel and let little distract him from his purpose. What can you do today to keep your focus on love?

I have called you friends,
because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.
It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you
and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain,
so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.
This I command you: love one another.” John 15:16 #dailyingodsword
