WORD OF GOD SUNDAY
In 2019 on the Feast of St. Jerome, Pope Francis released the Apostolic Letter "Aperuit illis" that dedicated the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time as "Word of God" Sunday, a day to "be devoted to the celebration, study and dissemination of the Word of God." That is today! Together we pray:⠀
"God of eternal love and light, You have given us Jesus as Your incarnate Word. Hear our humble prayers and grant us the grace and courage to live and proclaim Your Gospel. Through Christ our Lord. Amen."

He continues: "The Spirit continues to guide us in our translating the Good News into different contexts, so that the words of Jesus continue to resound in the hearts of men and women in every age. That is why I like to quote Gustav Mahler, that 'tradition is not the repository of ashes, but the preservation of fire.'"

215. “Life, for all its confrontations, is the art of encounter”.[204] I have frequently called for the growth of a culture of encounter capable of transcending our differences and divisions. This means working to create a many-faceted polyhedron whose different sides form a variegated unity, in which “the whole is greater than the part”.[205] The image of a polyhedron can represent a society where differences coexist, complementing, enriching and reciprocally illuminating one another, even amid disagreements and reservations. Each of us can learn something from others. No one is useless and no one is expendable. This also means finding ways to include those on the peripheries of life. For they have another way of looking at things; they see aspects of reality that are invisible to the centres of power where weighty decisions are made.

MEMORIAL OF MARIANNE COPE, RELIGIOUS
Remarkable, two times over
Imagine leaving all that is familiar to minister in a far-off land. Now imagine doing it twice! German-born Marianne Cope came to the United States as a young woman and, as a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Syracuse, New York, became a founding leader of St. Joseph’s Hospital in the city, one of the first general hospitals in the country. Then in 1883 she relocated with six other sisters to Hawai’i to care for persons suffering leprosy and to help develop the medical infrastructure of the island chain. Pray today for an ounce of the courage and sacrifice she modeled for us all.
Today's readings: Hebrews 9:2-3, 11-14; Mark 3:20-21
“Jesus came with his disciples into the house.” #takefiveforfaith

The importance of prayer is reflected in Evangelium vitae (100), which says, “A great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world. Through special initiatives and in daily prayer, may an impassioned plea rise to God, the Creator and lover of life, from every Christian community, from every group and association, from every family and from the heart of every believer” (Evangelium vitae 100). 213. The dignity of others is to be respected in a 213. The dignity of others is to be respected in all circumstances, not because that dignity is something we have invented or imagined, but because human beings possess an intrinsic worth superior to that of material objects and contingent situations. This requires that they be treated differently. That every human being possesses an inalienable dignity is a truth that corresponds to human nature apart from all cultural change. For this reason, human beings have the same inviolable dignity in every age of history and no one can consider himself or herself authorized by particular situations to deny this conviction or to act against it.

Embracing your inner apostle

How many apostles did Jesus call? If you said 12, well, you are sort of correct. Indeed, Jesus appointed 12 followers to be his close companions, to learn from him, and to preach the Good News. But it doesn’t stop at 12. Jesus continues to call forth apostles in the church. We have bishops who continue the mission via the tradition of apostolic succession. We also have every single person in the church, including you! “The whole church is apostolic, in that she remains . . . in communion of faith and life with her origin: and in that she is ‘sent out’ into the whole world,” says the Catechism of the Catholic Church. How will you respond to your call to apostleship?

TODAY'S READINGS: Hebrews 8:6-13 Mark 3:13-19.
“Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted and they came to him.”

Supporting one another through difficult times can Supporting one another through difficult times can be an incredibly impactful way for the Lord to work through us. Don't be afraid to reach out when you notice someone in need, especially in the case of vulnerable mothers, and persons in need of special care, support, or assistance.
Why is it, Lord, that I so quickly see the problem Why is it, Lord, that I so quickly
see the problem,
call to mind the hurt,
rehearse the pain,
dwell on my mistakes,
fret and stew in worry
and feed upon my fear?

Why is it, Lord, that I'm so slow
to see your grace,
treasure peaceful moments,
hold fast to every healing,
listen for your whisper,
lean upon your strength,
and drop my troubled heart
into your open, loving hands?

Lift me up, O Lord,
from all that keeps me down...

Open wide my eyes to see
the beauty of your face...

Lift my hands and heart
to you in prayer...

Open up my ears
to your Spirit's voice within...

Touch my mind and heart
where I'm most in need of healing...

Remind me every day
of my blessings, old and new...

Give me strength to live
one day,
one hour,
one minute at a time...

Lift me up, O Lord, out of
all that keeps me down
and let my spirit rise to find its joy
in you and in your love...
Amen.
