Here’s to the beautiful graces of faith acting in our daily routine—having faith in ourselves to do good, be good, and improve in all ways. Lord, I believe!’

Before we enter the solemn days of Holy Week, we celebrate Laetare (‘Rejoice!’) Sunday.
We are reminded of the joy of the presence of Jesus, the light of our world, and of the love of God shining through our lives.

What is it like for the man as he now sees Jesus and believes? And how does it feel for me to come face to face with Jesus? What have I to say about my belief in him?

"I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with lovingkindness. I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint."

JEREMIAH 31:3, 25

After endless promises to myself and others to do better next time, I find myself back again in the old dark places. But Jesus came to open my ears to another voice that says, “I am your God, I have molded you with my own hands, and I love what I have made. I love you with a love that has no limits, because I love you as I am loved. Do not run away from me. Come back to me—not once, not twice, but always again. You are my child. . . . I am your God—the God of mercy and compassion, the God of pardon and love, the God of tenderness and care. Please do not say that I have given up on you, that I cannot stand you anymore, that there is no way back. It is not true. I so much want you to be with me. I so much want you to be close to me. I know all your thoughts. I hear all your words. I see all your actions. And I love you because you are beautiful, made in my own image, an expression of my most intimate love. Do not judge yourself. Do not condemn yourself. Do not reject yourself. Let my love touch the deepest, most hidden corners of your heart and reveal to you your own beauty, a beauty that you have lost sight of, but that will become visible to you again in the light of my mercy. Come, come, let me wipe your tears, and let my mouth come close to your ear and say to you, ‘I love you, I love you, I love you.’ ”

A prayer for any time:

Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

When I was 19 years old, I fell in love with Jesus. And so in the summer of 1974, I was baptized Catholic - in the Murphy’s swimming pool!
Vatican II had flung open the windows and I have a clear memory of Fr. Frank, the priest who had just baptized me, standing at the edge of the pool, looking puzzled. I asked him what he was thinking about and he said “what am I going to do with all this holy water?!”
Well, at that, just about everyone jumped in!
The spirit was a movin’!

At morning mass the next day I was confirmed and received my first communion. And the rest, as they say, is history.
I became our parish youth minister that same week. And so began my vocation. Who would have thought that teenage girl would be called by God to minister in the Church, yet here I am today, having served 48 years in parish ministry - what a glad and grace-filled journey it has been.

God has called me in many ways throughout my life, and through it all I have tried to follow him. But as you know, our God is a God of surprises - and so it is that Christ is calling me to experience another deepening of His love and mercy in my life.

Thus it is with a heart full of gratitude to God and deep affection for you all, that I announce my retirement from parish ministry. I have been struggling with Ménières disease for some time but the condition has intensified, impacting my ability to continue. Don’t worry, it is a condition one lives with, though I remain grateful for your prayers.

Serving you these last 12 years has been such a joy. I love our community! Thank you for sharing your lives with me so generously. How you have touched my heart and enriched my soul!

In faith and friendship, I remain, gratefully,
Yours in Christ

God's Kingdom Is Within
The words of Jesus "Set your hearts on God's kingdom first . . . and all other things will be given you as well" summarize best the way we are called to live our lives. With our hearts set on God's kingdom. That kingdom is not some faraway land that we hope to reach, nor is it life after death or an ideal state of affairs. No. God's Kingdom is, first of all, the active presence of God's Spirit within us, offering us the freedom we truly desire.
