Question of the Week
Gospel Reading: Luke 3:1—6
On the second Sunday of Advent, as preparation for the birth of Christ, John the Baptist makes his appearance, the one who came to prepare the way of the Lord. It only seems reasonable that the God of the universe would send some sort of announcer to proclaim that he was going to break into the world, and that things would never be the same.
The announcement that John makes is indeed, earth-changing. Valleys (of the shadow of death) will be filled in. Mountains (obstacles) will be made low. Winding roads (heading who knows where) will be made straight. Rough ways (of suffering) will be made smooth. We do not have to save ourselves, because we could never do it anyway. God will do it, and everyone will know! This is all powerful, life-changing news!
Question: We don’t yet see the fullness of the changes Jesus makes, but where do I see hints of his immense presence in my life?
