Question of the Week
Gospel Reading: Mark 12:28—34
The first—that is, the most important—of all the commandments is to love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your understanding, and all your strength. We know these words very well. What do they mean? How do we know if we are doing it? How different is it from normal life to put God absolutely first, as Jesus commands?
We could ask ourselves some questions to make it clearer.
What is my first thought when I wake up in the morning? Thank you God? or maybe, what is on my schedule for today?
What do I make sure to have time for in the day, no matter what else happens? Time for prayer? Time for exercise? Time for eating? Time for leisure?
When something goes wrong, where is the first place I turn? to God? to friends? to the police or doctor?
All the saints removed other things—sometimes good things—from their lives in order to have room to put God first.
Question: What needs to be removed from my life in order to put God first?
