Question of the Week

Gospel Reading:             Mark 10:46—52

Bartimaeus was not one of the movers and shakers of his neighborhood; nobody came to ask for his wisdom.  Nobody searched out his approval before they carried out their plan. He was a nobody. But when Jesus came by, Bartimaeus was not to be put off; he would be helped. The more people rebuked him, the more he called out to Jesus for help. Jesus loves that. He loves persistence; he loves people who hang on, who insist on his help, no matter what gets in their way. As we learned from St. Teresa of Avila, “In the measure you desire him, you will find him.”

And Deuteronomy 4:29 reads, “…when you seek the Lord, your God…you shall indeed find him if you search after him with all your heart and soul.”

And so Bartimaeus was healed; he went from blind to sighted. And his first act as a sighted person was to follow Jesus.

Question: In my need, do I hang onto Jesus for dear life, or do I give up too easily? Or do I say, “I can do it myself?” What am I seeking with all my heart and soul?
