Question of the Week
Gospel Reading: Mark 10:2—16
What is the bottom line? What can a person get away with and still be counted a proper Jew? Jesus told them that Moses permitted divorce because of the people’s hardness of heart, but that divorce was never part of God’s plan for his people, and it is not to be part of his plan for us.
But why should we have things harder than they did in Moses’ day? Didn’t Jesus come to make things easier for us? In fact Jesus did make life easier in some ways, but harder in others. Jesus’ law is more stringent than Moses’ law, but more full of love. The important question is not so much What we do as it is Why we do it.
Question: Let us ask ourselves why we do what we do. How much of what I do is actually for Jesus, or for the good of another person?
