WORD OF GOD SUNDAY
In 2019 on the Feast of St. Jerome, Pope Francis released the Apostolic Letter "Aperuit illis" that dedicated the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time as "Word of God" Sunday, a day to "be devoted to the celebration, study and dissemination of the Word of God." That is today! Together we pray:⠀
"God of eternal love and light, You have given us Jesus as Your incarnate Word. Hear our humble prayers and grant us the grace and courage to live and proclaim Your Gospel. Through Christ our Lord. Amen."

He continues: "The Spirit continues to guide us in our translating the Good News into different contexts, so that the words of Jesus continue to resound in the hearts of men and women in every age. That is why I like to quote Gustav Mahler, that 'tradition is not the repository of ashes, but the preservation of fire.'"

“Holy Mary, we entrust our lives to you. Teach us to live in peace. Inspire us to act justly, to revere all God has made, to include all God’s children in the way of Love. Root peace firmly in our hearts and in the world. Amen."

215. “Life, for all its confrontations, is the art of encounter”.[204] I have frequently called for the growth of a culture of encounter capable of transcending our differences and divisions. This means working to create a many-faceted polyhedron whose different sides form a variegated unity, in which “the whole is greater than the part”.[205] The image of a polyhedron can represent a society where differences coexist, complementing, enriching and reciprocally illuminating one another, even amid disagreements and reservations. Each of us can learn something from others. No one is useless and no one is expendable. This also means finding ways to include those on the peripheries of life. For they have another way of looking at things; they see aspects of reality that are invisible to the centres of power where weighty decisions are made.

MEMORIAL OF MARIANNE COPE, RELIGIOUS
Remarkable, two times over
Imagine leaving all that is familiar to minister in a far-off land. Now imagine doing it twice! German-born Marianne Cope came to the United States as a young woman and, as a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Syracuse, New York, became a founding leader of St. Joseph’s Hospital in the city, one of the first general hospitals in the country. Then in 1883 she relocated with six other sisters to Hawai’i to care for persons suffering leprosy and to help develop the medical infrastructure of the island chain. Pray today for an ounce of the courage and sacrifice she modeled for us all.

The importance of prayer is reflected in Evangelium vitae (100), which says, “A great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world. Through special initiatives and in daily prayer, may an impassioned plea rise to God, the Creator and lover of life, from every Christian community, from every group and association, from every family and from the heart of every believer” (Evangelium vitae 100). May that prayer arise in our hearts today and each day forward until every human being is protected in law and welcomed in love. ... See MoreSee Less
